“Thus far the Lord has led me on,
Thus far his power prolongs my days;
And every evening shall make known
Some fresh memorial of his grace.
….
Faith in his name forbids my fear;
O may thy presence ne’er depart!
And in the morning make me hear
The love and kindness of thy heart.”
—Isaac Watts - “Hymn 80” - An evening hymn.

I’m waiting for someone to make a gif mashup of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” lyrics and Don Draper trying to call Megan on the last episode of Mad Men. Somebody please make my night.

“While most therapists would agree with Socrates that “the unexamined life is not worth living,” a lesser-known quote by American psychologist Sheldon Kopp might be more important here: “The unlived life is not worth examining.” —The Defining Decade Why Your Twenties Matter And How To Make The Most Of Them Now

People Say - Portugal. The Man

Saw them in concert on Saturday night at the GA Theatre with my best friend, Sarah.

So. Good. Especially their acoustic stuff, Sarah and I discovered. Spotify that junk.

“Primitive Girl” - M. Ward

He’s the Master of Folk. But here’s the poppiest song off his new album. Give it a listen.

She’s a primitive girl. She’s setting me free.
And her back’s in the basics of philosophies.
She’s nobody’s fool. I know she never was for me.
She’s a primitive girl. She’s setting me free.

Please tell me you've heard about this.

Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Aziz Ansari in a film called The Apocalypse

Set to come out in June 2013

“It’s basically all of us playing ourselves. Me, McBride, Jonah, Seth — everyone’s playing themselves, and the bit is James Franco’s having a party at his house, and the Apocalypse starts happening.” - Aziz Ansari

*This isn’t an Apatow movie. I know the people in the picture aren’t all in the movie. But I just couldn’t resist.

“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.” —

attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote reminds me of the field trip my Environmental Literature class will take on Sunday to Spring Hollow.

I get a bit anxious when I imagine spending a few hours with people I know in a very limited setting. When I imagined dinner and the bus ride to Spring Hollow with my class, I thought of how we have a greater bond to each other through the literature we’ve read together. We can touch on the beauty of nature, how we want to protect our environment for future generations, spirituality, evolution, the meaning of life. Literature created this bond.

Things that are pathetic: Me getting excited about having a 2.5 hr break tomorrow. Will I sleep? Maybe watch tv? Get homework done? Not talk to anyone? Read Harry Potter? The possibilities are infinite.

*sweet dreams of relaxation*

“We may take tomorrow for granted, thinking of it as a mark on the rim of time’s wheel, coming on inevitably as the circling years proceed. But in the Bible the years do not circle. They go in a straight line from eternity to eternity, and on that line we receive another day neither by natural necessity, nor by mechanical law, nor by right, nor by courtesy of nature, but only by the covenanted mercies of God. The very existence of tomorrow is as much part of our dependence on him as is our life itself and our ability.” —

J.A. Motyer, The Message of James (1985)

Wake up in the morning and realize that the day is a gift from God.

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13-15

Patrick Watson - Into Giants

Into Giants -Patrick Watson

I’m a sucker for a gentle guitar entwined with male and female harmonies. The delicate, feminine humming sets the tone for this sweet song about budding love.

Trouble seemed so slow

We never needed anybody else

Started as lovers, don’t know where it’s gonna end.

biophilia, n.  3. A love of or empathy with the natural world, esp. when seen as a human instinct.

1979   E. O. Wilson in N.Y. Times Bk. Rev. 14 Jan. 43/3   Our deepest needs stem from ancient and still poorly understood biological adaptations. Among them is biophilia: the rich, natural pleasure that comes from being surrounded by living organisms.

Hold On - The Alabama Shakes

The single from the next big thing. Really enjoying this band; check out their entire, new cd on NPR’s First Listen.

So, bless my heart.
Bless my mind.
I got so much to do, I ain’t got much time
So, must be someone up above saying

“Come on girl! You got to get back up!”
